Chennai: ICT Academy releases report on colleges' best practices

A panel of experts from industry, academia and government were jury members, who selected the best practices based on various parameters.

Chennai: As a measure to bridge the gap between colleges, industry and the government, ICT Academy released its report on best practices being followed by 130 colleges, in higher education in Tamil Nadu.

The criteria used to assess these 130 colleges were employability enhancement, empowering local schools, entrepreneurship, faculty empowerment, industry and academia collaboration, research and development, skill development, social initiatives, technology enablement, innovation and youth empowerment.

The criteria were evaluated for each college using parameters like - impact and effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, ethical soundness and replicability, and sustainability. A panel of experts from industry, academia and the government were the jury members, who selected the best practices based on the said parameters.

“ICT academy trains teachers, who pass on their skills to students. The main aim is to make them more employable. Also, to bridge the gap that students face in college right after school, the academy is working towards improving school syllabi,” said K Purushothaman, senior director, Nasscom.

Based on industry inputs that employability among campus graduates is not up to the level, collaboration among colleges in best practices is needed, said Lakshmi Narayanan, Chairman - ICT Academy and Vice-Chairman - Cognizant Technology Solutions India Pvt Ltd.

“Entrepreneurship has been growing at a big rate. Even among fresh graduates, preference to join start-ups is more than joining any corporate. Thus, what colleges are going to promote and enhance entrepreneurship is rated in this report among other nine factors,” he continued.
