Illegal Shed Linked to Afzal Guru’s Family Demolished In J&K’s Sopore
Authorities noted that the shed had been erected without permission and was in clear breach of land use norms: Reports
SRINAGAR: Authorities on Tuesday demolished an allegedly illegal shed constructed on state land in a suburb of Kashmiri town of Sopore as part of an ongoing anti‑encroachment drive, officials said.
The structure—reportedly built and occupied by relatives of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was executed in 2013—stood on a flood basin, making the construction a violation of government regulations, according to officials.
Revenue Department teams, accompanied by security personnel, carried out the demolition after identifying the shed as an encroachment on state land. Officials said the action was part of a broader campaign to remove unauthorised structures across the Baramulla district.
Authorities noted that the shed had been erected without permission and was in clear breach of land‑use norms. The demolition, they added, underscores the administration’s continued efforts to reclaim government land and curb illegal occupation.
