Police in Auraiya arrest 33-year-old Surjeet for the rape and murder of his 14-year-old cousin, who was found hanged in an attempt to mislead investigators
In a horrific incident in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh, a 33-year-old man named Surjeet allegedly raped and murdered his 14-year-old cousin hours after she tied a rakhi on him, police reported on Tuesday. To cover up the crime, he hung her body from a noose to stage it as a suicide.
The crime took place on Saturday night when Surjeet, under the influence of alcohol, returned to his uncle’s house where the victim was sleeping. He raped the teenager, killed her, and then staged the scene to appear as a suicide. The victim’s father, sleeping in another room, discovered her body the next morning and immediately informed the police.
Upon arriving at the scene, police quickly ruled out suicide as the cause of death. Their investigation took a turn when Surjeet returned to the house during the inquiry and began answering questions for family members, preventing them from speaking freely. His suspicious behavior led authorities to identify him as the primary suspect.
