Hasina Extradition Row: Envoy Meets Modi After Dhaka Talks
India is expected to raise its security concerns over rising anti-India activities in Bangladesh
New Delhi: A day after he met the Bangladesh Prime Minister Mr Tarique Rahman, the Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Mr Dinesh Trivedi flew to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss Dhaka’s concerns.
During the meeting between Mr Rahman and Mr Trivedi, on Monday, the Bangladeshi PM is learnt to have raised the issue of the extradition of former PM Ms Sheikh Hasina and the return of Osman Hadi's murder accused. Mr Rahman also stressed on the need to create a suitable environment to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Bangladesh hopes that India will expedite the process of extraditing Sheikh Hasina," said a press release issued by the PM’s Press Wing after the meeting.
The chief of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RA&W) Mr Parag Jain is in Dhaka currently on an official visit. Mr Jain on Monday met Mr Tarique Rahman’s Defence Affairs Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam in Dhaka. India is expected to raise its security concerns over rising anti-India activities in Bangladesh.
