State-run defence major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will hand over LCA Tejas Final Operational Clearance twin-seater trainers and HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to the Indian Air Force in Bengaluru on September 18.

HAL will also hand over Dhruv next-generation helicopters to Pawan Hans Limited.

Officials said the handover would mark an important milestone in India’s self-reliance drive and highlight the role of HAL and its industry partners in strengthening the domestic aerospace ecosystem.

The aircraft and helicopters will be handed over in the presence of defence minister Rajnath Singh and civil aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu, the defence ministry said in a statement.

The platforms demonstrate the domestic industry’s growing ability to design, develop and manufacture advanced systems for civil and military use, officials said.

IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, defence production secretary Sanjeev Kumar, civil aviation secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and HAL chairman and managing director Ravi K. will attend the programme.

Senior officials from the defence and civil aviation ministries, the IAF, Pawan Hans, regulatory agencies and the aerospace and defence sectors will also be present.

The government has accorded high priority to indigenous design, development and manufacturing in the aerospace and defence sectors. The induction of the platforms is another step towards strengthening domestic capabilities and reducing dependence on imports, the ministry said.
