GSV Plans to Set Up Campuses Across India, Including Telangana, Gets 100% Placement
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya aims to expand to 5,000 students in five years
Vadodara: The Vadodara-based Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), a Central university being run by the Railway Ministry, has long-term plans to set up campuses across the country, including Telangana, said its dean, academics, Prof. Dr Jitesh J. Thakkar. The university had got 100 per cent placements this academic year, he said.
GSV is India’s first university dedicated to transport and logistics. The university offers courses linked to railways, roads, ports, shipping, aviation, urban transport and logistics. Its aim is to create skilled manpower for India’s infrastructure projects. Prof. Thakkar said the university’s courses were prepared with the help of industry experts. Representatives from Indian Railways, Metro Rail companies, aviation firms and logistics companies are part of its academic bodies.
Industry professionals also teach students. They share practical knowledge and real-life case studies. Students undergo compulsory internships every year, spending 13 to 14 weeks in the industry. They also work on a 21-week final-year project with an industry partner. In total, students spend nearly nine months gaining practical experience.
This has helped the university record more than 92 per cent placements in recent years. The latest BTech and MBA batches achieved 100 per cent placements, Prof. Thakkar said. BTech admissions are based on JEE (Main) scores. MBA admissions are through CAT, MAT, XAT or CUET-PG, followed by an interview. The university also offers M.Tech, BBA, PhD and executive courses.
GSV has about 1,300 students from 22 states, including over 100 students from two Telugu states. The university has plans to increase the strength to 5,000 students in the next five years. Several companies were providing scholarships to deserving students. Global giants like Airbus, Nokia, Nippon Koel, Monash University, and IIM-Mumbai entered into partnership and collaborations with GSV, Prof. Thakkar said.
Dr V. Chintala, associate dean (R&D), said that the university was working on urban transport problems. It was testing an adaptive traffic signal system at six junctions in Vadodara. The system was expected to change signal timings based on traffic movement and accidents. The university plans to extend its expertise of the model to heavily traffic-congested cities such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.
