NEW DELHI: In a gubernatorial reshuffle on Monday, President Droupadi Murmu appointed former civil aviation minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju as Governor of Goa and former Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh will take over as Governor of Haryana, the official communiqué said.

These appointments will take effect on the dates the appointees assume charge of their respective offices. President Murmu also accepted the resignation of Brigadier B.D. Mishra (retired) as Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh. Brigadier Mishra had been appointed Ladakh’s second LG on February 19, 2023.
Mr Raju, a veteran Telugu Desam leader from Andhra Pradesh, will succeed P.S. Sreedharan Pillai as Goa’s Governor. Pillai was sworn in on July 15, 2021. Raju served as India’s civil aviation minister from May 27, 2014, to March 10, 2018, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has held ministerial posts in the Andhra Pradesh government.
Newly appointed Ladakh LG Gupta is a senior BJP leader from Jammu and Kashmir. He previously served as J&K’s Deputy Chief Minister and as Speaker of the erstwhile state Assembly. A three-term mayor of Jammu from 2005 to 2010, the 66-year-old Gupta hails from the Janipur area. He will replace Brigadier Mishra (Retired) as Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor.
Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh, a former West Bengal BJP unit head (1999–2002), has been named Governor of Haryana. He will succeed Bandaru Dattatraya, who took office on July 15, 2021, after serving as India’s Labour and Employment Minister.
