Fed Up With Praise for Wife’s Nose, Man Bites It Off and Flees

Kolkata, May 5: A youth bit off his wife's nose, fed up of hearing praise about its look from their neighbours. He also tried to kill her by strangulation. When he failed, he fled home. The shocking incident took place at Shantipur in Nadia of West Bengal.

The woman, Madhu Khatun, later received treatment on her nose wounds at Shantipur State General Hospital. She also lodged a complaint with the Shantipur police station later against her husband Bapan Sheikh who is at large.

According to the complaint, Bapan attacked his wife at around 3 am on May 3 when she was asleep. He bit her nose off and also injured one of her fingers on left hand and breast before trying to throttle her.

Waking up to the unbearable pain the woman shoved him away and screamed for help. Her elder brother who was sleeping in the next room rushed in and rescued her. Bapan escaped.

Madhu later claimed, “My husband was jealous of others praising the look of my nose. He often asked me why my nose looked so beautiful that others praised it. He even used to talk about biting my nose off. I never thought he was so serious.”

She also alleged that her in-laws including her husband used to torture her for giving birth to a girl who is now eight-year-old. The woman said she has been staying with her parents' house for the last couple of years after failing to cope up with the torture. Her husband was also staying there till the incident happened.
