BHUBANESWAR: The Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) on Friday announced plans to establish a full-fledged regional office in Bhubaneswar, signalling a major expansion of its engagement with Odisha and reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the state's export ecosystem.

The announcement was made at a seminar titled “Enhancing Exports from Odisha: Opportunities & Financing Solutions,” jointly organised by Exim Bank, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and the Government of Odisha. The event brought together senior government officials, exporters, industry leaders and financial institutions to deliberate on strategies for accelerating export-led growth in the state.

In his inaugural address, Exim Bank Deputy Managing Director Tarun Sharma said the proposed Bhubaneswar office would enable the Bank to work more closely with exporters, MSMEs and industry bodies across Odisha. He highlighted Exim Bank's support for projects spanning steel, renewable energy, wagon manufacturing and other sectors, while noting that its Trade Assistance Programme (TAP) has facilitated international trade transactions with countries such as Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and the United Kingdom.

Sharma also underlined the Bank's contribution to promoting Odisha's handicrafts sector and supporting young sportspersons in the state.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the MSME Department Rashmita Panda highlighted the Odisha government's initiatives to promote export-driven industrial growth and strengthen the state's global trade footprint.

A key highlight of the event was the release of Exim Bank's research publication, "The Odisha Opportunity: A Trade and Investment Roadmap," which identifies high-potential sectors, assesses the state's export competitiveness and outlines strategies to position Odisha as a leading export hub in eastern India.

Exim Bank General Manager (GM) Yogita Hatangadi presented the Bank's financing solutions for exporters, including overseas investment finance, lines of credit, technology upgradation and R&D support. She also highlighted Exim Bank's role in implementing three sub-schemes under the Centre's Export Promotion Mission covering assistance for e-commerce exporters, support for emerging export opportunities and interest subvention on pre- and post-shipment export credit.

The seminar also featured a panel discussion involving leading exporters from the seafood, ferro-alloys and refractories sectors, who discussed the opportunities and challenges facing Odisha's export industry. An open-house session with representatives of export promotion councils, industry bodies and government agencies focused on improving institutional support, trade facilitation and infrastructure.

Exim Bank said the proposed Bhubaneswar regional office would enable it to deliver financing and advisory services more efficiently, deepen collaboration with industry stakeholders and catalyse export growth from Odisha in the years ahead.
