Ex-Chief Secretary’s Son Held for Posing as Army Officer
The case was registered against Yashvardhan after a Delhi woman alleged that he had duped her of ₹4.5 lakh by claiming to have influential contacts in the government
Dehradun:Yashvardhan, the son of a former Uttarakhand Chief Secretary, was arrested in Dehradun for allegedly cheating people by posing as a senior Army officer and an official of the Union home and defence ministries, police said on Thursday.
The case was registered against Yashvardhan after a Delhi woman alleged that he had duped her of ₹4.5 lakh by claiming to have influential contacts in the government. He allegedly demanded more money from her, following which she approached the police.
Dehradun police arrested him after collecting evidence during the investigation.
City Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar said Yashvardhan allegedly changed his identity depending on the circumstances to gain the trust of his victims. He posed as an IAS or IPS officer attached to the Ministry of Home Affairs, an official of the Defence Ministry or a senior Army officer, police said.
Police also found that he allegedly stayed at hotels without paying bills and deceived hotel employees and security personnel.
An Army uniform, badges, a cap and a walkie-talkie were recovered from his possession during a search. Police suspect that he used the items to convince victims that he was an Army officer.
A case was registered against him under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said more victims could come forward during the investigation.
