Engineering Student Gang-Raped In Bhubaneswar; Boyfriend And Three Others Held

Bhubaneswar: Four students of a private engineering college were arrested in Bhubaneswar in connection with the alleged gangrape of a female student in the Infovalley police station area, police sources said on Wednesday.

According to the complaint lodged by the survivor, the incident took place at a private mess accommodation in the Kaimatia locality under Infovalley police limits.

The survivor alleged that one of the accused, who was reportedly known to her, had called her to his room, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by four students.

Following the registration of an First Information Report (FIR), the Commissionerate Police launched an investigation and arrested all four accused persons, including the survivor’s male friend, sources said.

Police said the accused were forwarded to a local court.

A scientific team and forensic experts visited the alleged crime scene and collected evidence as part of the investigation, officials said.

Investigators examined witness statements, electronic evidence and other forensic materials collected from the spot, police sources added.

Officials said the probe was underway and further investigation was being conducted into all possible angles related to the case.

Police officials said strict action would be taken against those found guilty based on the outcome of the investigation.
