The Enforcement Directorate.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH), Dr Sandip Ghosh, afresh for questioning on November 10 in connection with its probe in the case of financial irregularities at the state government-run healthcare facility.

He was earlier asked to appear at the ED office in CGO Complex of Salt Lake on Wednesday. Dr Ghosh however skipped his appearance and sought 10 days’ time via email citing ill-health. Later the ED served him a fresh notice. It is not however clear whether he would appear on that date.

Dr Ghosh came under the scanner of the central agencies following the rape and murder of a young on-duty doctor by a civic police volunteer two years ago at RGKMCH. Both the CBI and ED initiated cases against him and others for corruption at the hospital that came to light after the brutal crime.

Later the CBI arrested and chargesheeted him for Dr Ghosh’s involvement in financial irregularities. On October 15 this year, he was granted bail by a division bench of the Supreme Court in the corruption case in view of his long time behind bars and the status in the trial of the case.
