New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday met Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in Delhi and thanked her for supporting the outfit's youth-led protests, while making it clear that the organisation would not participate in Sunday's I.N.D.I.A. bloc rally.
Dipke said the CJP supported the opposition protest against alleged electoral irregularities but would retain its independent identity.
"We support the protest tomorrow, we stand in solidarity, but the Cockroach Janta Party is an independent organisation; it is a neutral platform, and we want to keep it that way," he said.
Dipke said he had met Banerjee to thank her for supporting the CJP's protests over the NEET paper leak and standing by the outfit when its leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were arrested by Delhi Police.
He said the organisation would support groups fighting against alleged vote theft, irrespective of political affiliations.
Banerjee praised Dipke and other young activists for sustaining their protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Election Commission.
"They have extended their full support for tomorrow's rally, and we have extended all support to them as well. They are the pioneers and the founders of this movement. That we must remember," she said.
Banerjee also invited the CJP activists to organise programmes in West Bengal, leaving the decision to them.
The meeting came ahead of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc's rally at Ramlila Maidan, where opposition parties are expected to demand accountability from the Election Commission.
