Didi Revamps TMC Minus Rebels, Deputes 2 Mps To Help Nephew
The TMC chief also reconstituted the West Bengal Pradesh Trinamool Congress committee without the rebel leaders: Reports
KOLKATA: Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee exercised a major organisational revamp in her party on Friday a month after losing power in West Bengal and witnessing a severe internal split recently in an unprecedented revolt by a majority of her party MLAs.
The rejig also came two days after TMC dissolved all of its units. In the afternoon, Ms Banerjee convened a TMC national working committee meeting at her residence on Harish Chatterjee Street in Kalighat. Several prominent party leaders, except the rebel MLAs, attended it.
Ms Banerjee appointed two TMC Rajya Sabha MPs, Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen, as national joint secretaries to assist her MP nephew and party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who has been in the eye of a storm inside and outside the party for his fiefdom.
The TMC chief also reconstituted the West Bengal Pradesh Trinamool Congress committee without the rebel leaders. While former party MLA Chandrima Bhattacharya has become the new state president, Subrata Bakshi continues as vice-president in the national working committee.
On the other hand, Sajda Ahmed, Mamata Thakur, Nayana Bandyopadhyay and Swati Khandekar have been appointed vice presidents of West Bengal Pradesh Trinamool Congress. Apart from them, Babar Ali, Pulak Roy, Ashima Patra, Aroop Biswas and Rajib Banerjee have been posted as state general secretaries.
The panel also has executive members– Jyotipriyo Mullick, Dr Rana Chatterjee, Bidesh Bose, Trinankur Bhattacharjee, Jaya Dutta, Tapas Chatterjee, Vasundhara Goswamy and Goutam Deb.
Other decisions include appointment of Saayoni Ghosh (TMYC president), Madhurima Thakur (TMYC general secretary), Mala Roy (Mahila President), Priyanka Adhikari (TMCP President), Moloy Ghatak (INTTUC President), Madan Mitra (Hawkers & GOI President) Madan, Becharam Manna (Farmers wing), Purnendu Bose (Khet Mazdoor) and Birbaha Hansda (SC/ST).
TMC however kept its spokespersons— Ms Bhattacharya, Kalyan Banerjee, Madan Mitra and Kunal Ghosh— unchanged and made Subhasish Chakraborty treasurer.
