A 11-year-old boy who was found dead in a septic tank had reportedly suffered sexual abuse in Puri's Ratanpur village, the police said on Tuesday.

In a deeply disturbing case from Ratanpur village under the jurisdiction of Delanga police in Puri district, an 11-year-old boy who had been reported missing has been found dead in a septic tank. Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal revealed on Tuesday that the child suffered sexual abuse prior to his murder.

Initial investigations conducted by local authorities indicated that the victim was trapped in a troubling situation that led to his tragic demise. The case was officially recorded under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting the severity of the allegations.

According to SP Agrawal, the accused, identified as Prabhakar Sahu, also known as Bapi, attempted to conceal his heinous crime by disposing of the boy’s body in the septic tank.

“We formed multiple investigative teams and pursued various leads. It became clear that Prabhakar was the perpetrator,” the SP stated.

Reports revealed that on the day the child went missing, Prabhakar lured him to a particular place where he abused him. As the victim threatened to disclose the incident to his family, the accused smothered the child to prevent any revelation and subsequently disposed of the body in the septic tank.

The authorities are currently awaiting the findings of a post-mortem examination to determine the exact circumstances of the boy's death. “It remains to be clarified whether the death was caused prior to being thrown into the tank or as a result of the act itself,” SP Agrawal concluded.
