DA Case: Odisha Executive Engineer Who Bought 97 Plots, Luxury Properties Arrested

According to vigilance officials, preliminary investigations revealed that the engineer, Bhubaneswar Sabar, allegedly owned as many as 97 plots of land spread across nearly 83 acres, triggering serious concerns over the source of his wealth and possible misuse of official position.

During searches conducted at multiple locations linked to the accused officer, the vigilance team reportedly unearthed several high-value assets, including five residential buildings, four of them multi-storey houses. Authorities also detected two large farmhouses spread over 17 acres and eight commercial cabins located in a prominent market complex.

All identified properties have been attached pending further investigation, officials said.

The vigilance department stated that the assets discovered so far exceeded the officer’s declared income, indicating possible financial irregularities and accumulation of wealth through corrupt means. Investigators are now examining documents and financial records to ascertain whether additional undisclosed assets are linked to the accused.

“Further inquiry is underway to trace other movable and immovable assets and verify financial transactions,” a vigilance official said.

The arrest of executive engineer Bhubaneswar Sabar sent shockwaves through administrative circles and is being viewed as part of the state government’s intensified drive against corruption. Vigilance authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and integrity in public administration.

Officials maintained that stringent action against corrupt practices is essential to deter abuse of office and restore public confidence in government institutions.
