Union Minister JP Nadda Visits Flood-Hit Sivasagar In Assam

Guwahati : Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda on Wednesday visited flood-ravaged areas of Assam’s Sivasagar district and assured residents of full support from the Central government for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-hit areas.

Mr Nadda accompanied by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and several state Cabinet ministers, visited some of the worst-hit villages, including Bihubor, Nepali Khuti (also referred to as Nepalikhuti) and Santak. The union minister travelled through mud-covered roads, at one point using a tractor, to reach the affected areas along the Assam-Nagaland border.

While addressing the flood-hit residents of the area, Mr Nadda said, “On behalf of the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I assure Himanta Biswa Sarma and all of you that there will be no shortage of relief assistance. Complete financial assistance is being extended to the state. Central teams are assessing the scale of damage here. We are fully engaged in rehabilitation efforts.”

Acknowledging the severity of the destruction,he said that entire villages had suffered heavily with extensive loss of property, crops and livestock. “I have visited the flood-hit Nepalikhuti area. Along with chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, I have witnessed the scale of devastation. The damage is so huge that it will take time for normalcy to return,” said Mr Nadda while assuring that the Centre would provide financial assistance, compensation for losses, and support for rehabilitation without any shortcoming.

Mr Nadda also lauded the Assam government’s response, stating that relief work had been carried out proactively and swiftly and was continuing at full speed. He said that Prime Minister Modi had sent him to take stock of the situation and that detailed discussions with the Chief Minister were planned.

The chief minister thanked the Union Minister for visiting the affected areas and expressed confidence that he would convey the ground situation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Nadda ji has personally seen the extent of the destruction. I am confident that he will convey the situation to the Prime Minister so that the people of Assam receive all the support required for relief and rehabilitation,” said the chief minister Sarma.
