New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, expressing the nation's gratitude for their "extraordinary courage" and commitment to safeguarding the country.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the bravery displayed by the soldiers in the face of extreme challenges would forever remain a source of national pride.
"On Kargil Vijay Diwas, our nation expresses gratitude to the brave soldiers for their extraordinary courage and commitment towards securing India. Their valour in the face of the most formidable conditions will forever remain a source of national pride," PM Modi posted.
He added that the unwavering patriotism and devotion to duty shown by the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War would continue to inspire generations.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honour the soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The conflict began in May 1999 when intruders crossed the Line of Control and occupied strategic Indian positions overlooking National Highway 1A, the key route linking Srinagar and Leh. India launched Operation Vijay, and after more than two months of intense fighting in difficult mountain terrain, successfully drove out the intruders and regained control of all occupied posts.
