Rajasthan Railway Stations Get Rs 56,000 crore Upgrade Push

JAIPUR: Railway infrastructure in Rajasthan is receiving a major upgrade, with Rs 56,000 crore being allocated for station redevelopment, passenger amenities, maintenance facilities and other works, including Rs 10,228 crore in the current financial year.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station programme, 85 stations are being redeveloped at a cost of over Rs 4,200 crore. Work at eight stations has been completed and the upgraded facilities opened to passengers. Jaipur railway station is being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 717 crore.
The works include a second entry gate, an air-conditioned concourse spread over about 10,260 square metres, three new foot overbridges, 30 lifts and 18 escalators. Jaipur Railway Station director G.C. Gupta said the second entry would facilitate passenger and vehicular movement and integrate the station with Metro services.
The redevelopment also includes rainwater harvesting, scientific waste disposal and a 2,050 kWp solar power plant, with the station being developed as a green building while reflecting Rajasthan’s cultural heritage.
A mega coaching terminal is also being developed at Khatipura to ease operational pressure on Jaipur station and provide maintenance facilities for Vande Bharat, DEMU, LHB and other train rakes. The facility will include a bogie drop pit, retractable overhead equipment, a four-tier examination system, a synchronised coach-lifting system and under-gear scanning systems, Gupta said.
Meanwhile, works worth Rs 211 crore are nearing completion at Gandhinagar Jaipur station. The project includes a second entry, passenger facilities and a 1,376 kWp solar power plant.
Railway infrastructure expansion in the state also includes new railway lines, track doubling and electrification. Almost all rail routes in Rajasthan have been electrified, and six Vande Bharat trains are currently operating in the state.
The Press Information Bureau organised a media tour for Andhra Pradesh journalists to Rajasthan, during which the Jaipur railway station redevelopment was reviewed.
