New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday criticised the government after US President Donald Trump repeated his claim about brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, “he’s said it 25 times,” Gandhi noted, calling it “fishy.”

Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh tweeted that while the Modi government refuses to set firm dates for a parliamentary debate on the Pahalgam–Sindoor issue or secure a Prime Ministerial reply, President Trump has reached a “silver jubilee” milestone: announcing the ceasefire “25 times in the last 73 days,” yet Prime Minister Modi remains silent, “finding time only to travel abroad and to weaken democratic institutions at home.”

In Parliament, Gandhi asked, “Who is Trump to negotiate a ceasefire? And why has Prime Minister Modi not once responded?” He added, “What could the PM say? ‘Trump got it done’? But that’s the truth—Trump secured the ceasefire, and the whole world knows it.”

Gandhi argued there are larger issues at stake, defence, the defence industry, and Operation Sindoor, and lamented that “those who call themselves patriots have run away” instead of debating them. He challenged the government’s inconsistency: “You say Operation Sindoor is ongoing, yet you claim victory. Trump says he halted Sindoor, and he’s said it 25 times. So ‘kuch na kuch toh daal mein kala hai’ (something’s fishy).”

Asked about India’s diplomatic outreach post Sindoor, Gandhi replied, “They’ve destroyed our foreign policy, no one is supporting us.”

He noted that the government has agreed to discuss Operation Sindoor once Prime Minister Modi returns from abroad.
