New Delhi: Following the BJP’s major victories in the Assam and West Bengal Assembly elections, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has reiterated his allegations of “vote theft,” referring to BJP MPs and MLAs as “infiltrators.”

In a post on X on Wednesday, Gandhi claimed that nearly every sixth BJP MP in the Lok Sabha had won through “vote theft.” He also alleged that the entire government in Haryana was formed through similar means.

“Seats are sometimes stolen through vote theft, sometimes entire governments. Out of the 240 BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha, roughly every sixth MP has won through vote theft. It’s not hard to identify them—should we call them ‘infiltrators’ in the BJP’s own language? And Haryana? There, the entire government is ‘infiltrator’,” he said.

Gandhi also renewed his criticism of the central government led by Narendra Modi, calling it “compromised” and “remotely controlled.” He alleged that institutions are being manipulated and that the government fears fair elections.

He stated that those who tamper with voter lists and the electoral process are themselves “remote controlled,” adding that the government’s real fear is the truth. He claimed that under fair conditions, the BJP would struggle to win even 140 seats.

Gandhi has repeatedly raised allegations of “vote theft,” particularly after the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections, where Congress lost with 37 seats while the BJP secured 48 in the 90-member Assembly. Congress rejected the results, citing internal surveys and exit polls.

He has also held multiple press conferences highlighting alleged discrepancies in electoral rolls but has not submitted a formal written complaint to the Election Commission despite repeated requests.

The latest remarks come after the BJP’s strong performance in recent state elections. In West Bengal, the party won 206 seats, a significant increase from its 77 seats in 2021, while the All India Trinamool Congress secured 80 seats.

In Assam, the BJP won 82 seats, while its allies—the Bodoland People's Front and the Asom Gana Parishad—won 10 seats each. Congress and its allies managed only 21 seats.
