Bhubaneswar: In a major decision likely to bring relief to thousands of job aspirants across the state, the Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday evening approved a proposal to increase the upper age limit for entry into government services from 32 to 42 years.

Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, chief secretary Manoj Ahuja said, “In order to provide greater opportunities to overage candidates to participate in various recruitment examinations, the government, after careful consideration, has decided to enhance the upper age limit from 32 to 42 years.”

The upper age limit for entry into government services in Odisha is currently regulated under the Odisha Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989. As per Rule 2 of the said regulation, the existing upper age cap was 32 years.

A press release issued by the general administration and public grievance department stated, “Numerous representations had been received from various quarters requesting an increase in the upper age limit to enable overage aspirants to participate in the forthcoming recruitment drives.”

Apart from this key decision, the Cabinet also cleared several other proposals pertaining to the commerce & transport, electronics and information technology, health and family welfare, works, and general administration departments.
