Madhya Pradesh: PM to Visit MP on May 31 to Address Women Conference, Coinciding 300th Birth Anniversary of Ahalya Bai

 Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a women's conference here on May 31, being held to highlight the measures undertaken by the state government for empowerment of the fair sex.

The mega event which expects to draw around one lakh women coincides with the 300th birth anniversary of Ahalya Bai, the erstwhile ruling queen of the former princely estate of Indore who established Maheshwar, now in Khargone district in Madhya Pradesh, as the seat of the Holkar Dynasty, officials said here on Monday.

“The conference will be dedicated to women empowerment and self-reliance”, a spokesman of the Madhya Pradesh government said.

Postage stamps and coins dedicated to the Holkar dynasty queen are scheduled to be released at the conference, the spokesman said.

Ahalya Bai Holkar, known as a social reformer contributing immensely for women empowerment, was born on May 31, 1725 in the village of Chaundi, in the present-day Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

She was married in the Holkar dynasty and became the Rajmata and later the ruling queen of the former princely estate of Indore.

Chief minister Mohan Yadav on Monday reviewed preparations for the proposed women’s conference at a high-level official meeting here.

All the major activities being conducted for women empowerment and achievements made in the field will be showcased at the event.

Stalls will be set up on the occasion focusing on innovations of self-help groups, initiatives being taken by women in building various enterprises and startups. Besides, various schemes being implemented by the state government for empowerment of women, will also be showcased on the occasion.
