SRINAGAR: Welcoming the Centre’s decision to undertake a diplomatic outreach by sending delegations of Members of Parliament to key global capitals to present the country’s perspective on Operation Sindoor and the stance against cross-border terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Saturday, “It is a good move”.
While speaking to reporters here, Abdullah recalled that after the December 2001 Parliament terror attack the government had dispatched delegations to various parts of the world for a similar diplomatic outreach to explain ‘Operation Parakram’ under which India initiated a military build- along its western borders.
He left to the ministry of external affairs to reply to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s latest statement that his country and India should sit down at the table and settle their outstanding issues, including Kashmir.
Abudllah said that the tourism sector in Kashmir has been hit badly after the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent developments. He said, “There are hardly any tourists coming here this summer season. We are now focused on Amarnath Yatra and want to ensure that every pilgrim leaves from here safe and sound.” He added, “We want the incident-free annual pilgrimage, and later on, we will start looking at what we can do to promote tourism.”
