Brics: Leaders Go Filmy, All Thank India Says Summit Was A Roaring Success

New Delhi: The curtains on the Brics summit have come down, but the words of praise continue to pour from the world leaders who participated in the two-day summit in New Delhi. The leaders went back home with a positive mood and hope to work together both as a group, and bilaterally in a more effective way. Majority of leaders shared videos recapping their visit to Delhi.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim flaunted his love for Bollywood songs by putting background music of “Tujhe Dekha to ye jana sanam” from film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge while posting a recap video. The Indonesian government through its Foreign Minister Sugiono’s social media handles too posted several videos having bollywood songs as background music. The wrap up video of the Brics tour had the song “Ilahi mera jee aye, aye” from the film Jawani Diwani. The Indonesian FM posted another video of President Prabawo Subianto with the background music “Hello hello tu floor par jab hai aaye,” from the film Dil Dhakane Do.

However, on a serious note, Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday said three intensive days at the BRICS Summit deepened ties with friendly neighbours and gave a chance to reinvent members’ economies.

“Three intensive days at the Brics summit deepened ties with friendly neighbors. We must transform potential into tangible connections. Informal talks focused on trade, economy, and joint cooperation -- a chance to reinvent member economies,” Mr Pezeshkian wrote on X.

Wrapping up the visit to India, Mr Ibrahim said the visit has etched important successes for Malaysia on the international stage with a firm voice and stance, as well as an economy that is increasingly gaining the world's attention and confidence.

“At the 18th Brics leaders' summit, Malaysia stepped forward to carry the voice of the Global South countries demanding a more just and equitable world order. We also continue to firmly defend the fate of the Palestinian people and reject colonization, violence, and silence in the face of injustice,” Mr Ibrahim said, adding that bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders reflect Malaysia's increasingly respected position as they were able to collaborate with various powers. He added that confidence in Malaysia is also translated through the interest of major Indian companies in forging partnerships in the automotive, engineering, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing sectors. “The highest appreciation to the Government of India for the warm reception and kind hospitality throughout our stay in New Delhi and Kerala. Thank you, India. Will meet again,” Mr Ibrahim said.

The Russian government appreciated the outcomes of bilateral talks between President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying Mr Putin welcomed the readiness of the Chinese and Indian leaders to contribute to efforts to settle the Ukraine conflict.

"Indeed, both President Xi and Prime Minister Modi took an active interest in Ukraine-related issues during meetings in New Delhi and spoke about their countries’ readiness, if necessary, to play a role in settlement efforts and make their own contribution. President Putin took it quite positively," Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The Chinese government indicated that the bilateral between PM Modi and President Xi were very positive. “PM Modi said (to Xi) India has an independent foreign policy..and that India will not allow any force to engage in anti-China activities on its territory. China values PM Modi's statements," said China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Modi-Xi meeting at Brics.

The foreign office of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) released a statement after Brics saying India and UAE continue to deepen their longstanding relations and expand avenues of cooperation in support of shared interests. “During the Brics meetings, the strength of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries was evident, underpinned by decades of mutual trust and close cooperation,” the statement said.

Putting a recap video, Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed Ali said, “Our new year begins with our strategic interests secured and Africa's voice rising on the global stage.” He expressed happiness that the Brics members reaffirmed the bloc’s robust support for Ethiopia’s ongoing accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ethiopia’s candidature to secure an additional seat on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council and Ethiopia’s preparations to host the 32nd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32).
