He would review counterinsurgency measures at high-level meeting
Raipur: Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive here on Friday on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh.
Mr. Shah is scheduled to review counterinsurgency measures being undertaken in the Leftwing insurgency-hit areas of Bastar and Gariaband in Chhattisgarh soon after his arrival here on Friday afternoon, a senior state government officer told this newspaper, unwilling to be quoted.
Sources said the security establishment is scheduled to make a presentation before Mr. Shah on the progress made in ceding bases of Naxals in Bastar by flushing out the Maoists at the meeting.
Sources said he is also scheduled to interact with the security personnel involved in the anti-Naxal operations in Bastar during his visit to Dantewada in south Bastar on Saturday to gather firsthand information on the ground level situation in the Leftwing insurgency-hit areas.
Mr. Shah is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of ‘Bastar Pandum’ festival, being organized by the state government to showcase the art, culture and cuisine of different tribe groups of Bastar, in Dantewada on Saturday.
He is also scheduled to pay obeisance at the Maa Danteshwari shrine in Dantewada on the day.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh deputy chief minister Vijay Sharma on Thursday visited Raigudem village under Jagargunda police station in Sukma district under south Bastar and interacted with the local people to know about the local issues.
The forested village of Raigudem is situated in Maoists’ core area.
Mr. Sharma along with the jawans moved in the nearby forested areas on motorcycles to instill confidence among the local tribes who have been under constant threats from Maoists.
Senior police officers including Bastar range inspector general of police P Sunderraj accompanied him.
