Kamareddy Sees Dip in Road Mishaps, Crimes

 Kamareddy: Compared to the last year, road accidents have decreased in the Kamareddy district this year, said police. Last year, 516 road accident cases, including 243 deaths were reported and this year, 221 persons died in 496 mishaps.

Speaking to the media at a press meet on Saturday, superintendent of police Sindhu Sharma said that wearing helmets and speed limit initiatives by the police helped reduce road accidents in the district. Penalties were imposed on over-speeding drivers by using speed guns,  and signboards, rumble strips were set up at accident-prone areas as part of road safety measures, said the SP, adding that action was initiated against drunk drivers.

 The SP said that the accused in 28 murder cases were arrested and 63 per cent of stolen property was recovered in theft cases. Crime against women decreased to  346 in 2023 compared to 351 cases in 2022, she said. Awareness programmes on punishment of offences have reduced the cases, she said. About twenty-nine per cent of crimes decreased among minor girls, she said. Cybercrimes also decreased from 294 cases in 2022 to  240 cases in 2023, she said.
