After floods, dengue cases hit flood-affected areas

ADILABAD: After the floods, the flood-affected areas in the old Adilabad district are faced with the outbreak of dengue and viral fever in recent days.  These areas are breeding grounds for mosquitoes and this caused the dengue outbreak, health officials said

Activists say Panchayat Raj and municipal officials have failed to take timely steps  to maintain sanitation in the rural and urban areas. Dengue positive cases are high in Nirmal town and its surrounding mandals that were fully inundated in the recent floods.

Hundreds of dengue cases are being reported from the flood-affected areas and slums where there is no civic spraying though waterlogging was massive and garbage piles remain unattended.

Large numbers of patients with dengue symptoms are thronging the RIMS Adilabad and private hospitals for treatment.

The dengue cases were  reported also from Kadam, Khanapur, Pembi, Boath, Bajarhathnoor and Gudihathnoor mandals. Cases were also reported from the agency areas in Komaram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial districts.

After the second wave of Covid, private hospitals have started exploiting patients with dengue symptoms. Treatment charges remain high.
