No re-exam for Tamil Nadu CBSE class 10 students
This announcement came as a relief for the lakhs of students who toiled hard for the board exam.
Chennai: Following outrage from parents and students over cancellation of class 10 maths exam, the Central Board on Secondary Education on Saturday announced that re-examination will not be considered for any other state except Delhi NCR and Haryana.
This announcement came as a relief for the lakhs of students who toiled hard for the board exam.
In a press release the CBSE said, “Initial inquiries have revealed that the leak was restricted to Delhi NCR and Haryana. Details are still being worked out. In view of this, it has been decided that re-examination will not be considered for any other state except Delhi NCR and Haryana.”
However, it also cautioned that if after a detailed inquiry it is found necessary to conduct re-examination, it will be held in July 2018.
Earlier CBSE had announced the re-examination for Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics subjects in the wake of reports of the paper leak in WhatsApp. The announcement has left lakhs of students stunned as most of them found the class 10 maths question paper easy.
As far as class 12 economics exam, the board said, “The exam will be conducted for all candidates except the students in CBSE schools located abroad.”
The candidates will appear for the same allotted centres using the same admit card on April 25.
Ajith Prasath Jain, senior principal, Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram, said it was a good decision taken by the CBSE. “Instead of question papers, the board should think of paperless exam to prevent the leaking of question papers. I think the board is also thinking on the same lines,” he said.
While welcoming the decision, Radhika Unni, principal, SBOA School and Junior College, Anna Nagar, asked “Why should we penalise students in Chennai region when have they not even heard about question paper leak?”
“They had studied hard for the exam and prepared well. This decision looks justifiable,” she added.
