Chennai: The Madras high court has reserved orders on an application, which sought to restrain the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council from conducting the “Illayaraja 75” programme, scheduled to be held on February 2 and 3.

Justice K. Kalyasundaram reserved orders after hearing elaborate arguments from both sides.

In their petitions, J. Sathish Kumar of JSK Films and Radhakrishnan, both film producers,  alleged misappropriation of funds by the office bearers of the TN Film Producers Council.

Their counsel Thiageshwaran submitted that the decision to conduct the programme was not at all discussed in the AGM and the decision was taken unilaterally by the present office-bearers whose tenure was going to come to an end by April 2, 2019. Despite repeated request, the present office-bearers without placing the accounts for the years 2015-16, 2016-17, before the AGM and without passing any valid resolution before the AGM for conducting the programme Illayaraja 75 had stated that it was for fund raising, he added.

Advocates V.P.senguttuvel and Krishna Ravindran, appearing for the TN Film Producers Council submitted that all the allegations made by the petitioners were based on assumptions and presumptions.

Producing the original documents relating to the contract and the event details before the court, they submitted that the accounts for the previous financial year have been audited and circulated in that last AGM. All arrangements have already been made for the event ‘Illayaraja 75’, they added.
