Name Lokayukta by December 20: Telangana High Court
Inquiring into the reason for the delay in making the appointments, the Bench said that the government should not violate the laws.
Hyderabad: Though the government did not keep its word to appoint the Lokayukta, Upa Lokayukta and chairman of the State Human Rights Commission within the deadline, the Telangana High Court on Friday directed that the appointments be made by December 20.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A. Abhishek Reddy was dealing with the PIL filed by social activist Koini Venkanna from Khammam, seeking directions to the government to make the appointment to the statutory bodies including Information Commissioners under the Right to Information Act.
Inquiring into the reason for the delay in making the appointments, the Bench said that the government should not violate the laws.
It said that a longer delay would have a negative impact on the minds of the people with regard to serious allegations on corruption and violation of human rights.
Reacting sharply to Advocate General B.S. Prasad’s submissions that the process was delayed due to the RTC employees’ strike, Chief Justice Chauhan said, “We are allergic to the bureaucratic type of language.”
On November 8, the Advocate General had assured to the court that the appointments process would be completed by November 29. Based on this, the bench had hoped that AG’s assurance would be realised.
