Bengaluru: Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has directed the police department to ensure peace in the city as well as in the state ahead of Ganesha and Muharram festivals.

In his maiden visit to the police headquarters on the Nrupatunga Road on Thursday, the minister held video conference with all the district superintendents of police.

The police should ensure communal harmony and curb anti-social elements in the state, he said.

The Inspector Generals of Police (IGP) in the state should visit the districts under their jurisdiction and conduct peace meetings and discuss law and order issues, he advised.

The police should give top priority for narcotics cases, economic offences and crime against women, he said.

Bommai assured that he is submitting a proposal to the cabinet to implement police reforms and filling up the vacancies.

He also suggested planning traffic management in and around CBD areas as MG Road, Brigade Road and Vidhana Soudha, where there is a high density of vehicles.
