Bengaluru: With Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi setting 2020 as the new deadline for opening the coach terminal at Baiyappanahalli, the third one for Bengaluru, the burden on Bengaluru Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (City Railway Station) and Yeshwanthpur railway terminals will be eased.

The setting up of the third coach terminal at Baiyappanahalli has been delayed for various reasons. However, the minister who was on a recent visit to inspect the terminal work said Baiyappanahalli station will become a major station. Facilities such as foot over bridges, platform shelters and other modern passenger amenities will be provided in the new station, he said.

As per the original plan, the project was supposed to be ready in December 2018, but it was later put off till March 2019 and now to 2020.

A Railway official told Deccan Chronicle, “We have achieved good progress in the civil works. As signalling and telecommunication works are time-consuming, there was some delay. We will be able to meet the fresh deadline”. Also, work on the ROB had been pending for many years owing to issues over acquisition of defence land. Now as per the direction, ROB will be completed in the next nine months. According to a report, the third terminal at Baiya ppanahalli will be as big as the Yeshwanthpur terminal in terms of the total number of platforms and pipelines. While KSR railway station has 10 platforms, the Yeshwa nthpur station has six.
