Thiruvananthapuram: In the midst of the raging controversy over the custodial death of local financier in Peermade, power minister M. M. Mani on Saturday courted a major controversy calling the victim a trouble-maker even as the Crime Branch investigations confirmed custodial torture.

The power minister raised serious allegations against Raj Kumar, accusing him of cheating and other wrong doings. He even sought to give a political colour to the gruesome crime alleging that a section of Congress workers were also involved in the cheating.

Mani said it should be probed whether Raj Kumar was assaulted before he was taken into police custody. The minister said his statement referring to police role was twisted by media.

“What I said was that if police commits any wrong it would lead to a major controversy, ” he added.

The minister alleged that those who resorted to cheating and assaulted Raj Kumar were now complaining about his death. The government has to explain for the actions of police. It is the responsibility of the police to act responsibly.
