Hyderabad: Unseemly scenes were witnessed at the Bharosa centre at Nampally here on Monday when Ms N. Sindhu Sharma and her estranged husband Vasista Rao, the son of former High Court judge Justice Nooty Rama Mohan Rao, fought over the custody of their three-year-old daughter Rishita.

The couple was seen pulling the little girl from either side. The custody of their 18-month-old daughter Sri Vidya had been handed over to Ms Sharma after she staged a protest on Sunday.

According to sources, when the Childline staff visited the ex-judge’s residence on Sunday, the family refused to send the three-year-old with them. They, however, handed over the infant who was later given to the mother.

The quarrel at the Bharosa centre at Nampally was for the custody of the elder daughter.

After physically pulling the three-year-old to their side, Mr Vasista Rao took her away and challenged Ms Sharma to move the court for her custody.

Ms Sharma has accused Justice Rama Mohan Rao (retired), his wife Durga Jaya Laxmi and their son Vasista Rao of domestic violence and dowry harassment. She filed a complaint against them at the women’s police station here on Saturday.  She claimed she sustained injuries due to domestic violence.

A case under IPC Sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and Sections 4 and  6 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The former judge has been listed as Accused No. 1 in the case.

On Sunday, Ms Sharma and her family members staged a protest in front of the ex-judge’s house in Jubliee Hills. Ms Sharma’s family demanded that Justice Rao, his wife and son be arrested forthwith.
