Chittoor district gears up for local body elections

The authorities are preparing the voters list looking into the details of the voters in the list readied for general polls.

Tirupati: While the notification for the ensuing local body elections in the state is expected to be issued anytime, the political parties in the state are gearing up to face them making necessary arrangements at the grass root-level. On the other hand, the state election commission (EC) already sent instructions to all the municipalities and municipal corporations to start the exercise to finalise division-wise voter lists.

With the term of six municipalities, along with Chittoor Corporation, going to end on July 2, the Chittoor district administration is involved in releasing the draft of voter list. The electoral officers are busy with back-to-back meetings being held with nodal officers and representatives of political parties.

The authorities are preparing the voters list looking into the details of the voters in the list readied for general polls. The final list of electorate for the local body elections will be put on display in May at the collectorate, respective RDO, municipality, divisional polling stations, tahsildar and other local body offices.

According to the draft, 7,35,801 voters have been identified in the district, which has six municipalities -- Madanapalli, Srikalahasthi, Palama-ner, Punganur, Nagari and Puttur and corporations including  Chittoor and Tirupati. While Tirupati has 2,62,908 voters in 50 wards, the Chittoor corporation has 1,40,817 voters in 50 wards.  The political parties have intensified the exercise to identify candidates who would definitely win. The two major parties, TD and YSRC, would field their candidates in every ward.
