Thiruvananthapuram: Hot weather alert continues

Educational institutions have been asked to avoid summer vacation classes.

Thiruvananthapuram: As the mercury level keeps soaring, many suffered sunburn and sunstroke in the state on Friday. A total of 121 heat-related incidents were reported which include 60 sunburn cases, 59 heat rash cases, and 3 sunstroke cases.

According to India Meteorological Department, heatwave alert will continue in the state till Sunday. As per the predictions, the temperatures are likely to go up by 2 to 3 degrees in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod. According to health authorities, exposure to the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. may cause sunstroke due to strong UV rays.
