Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that the drought-hit Rayalaseema region would soon turn as a rich horticulture hub after the completion of HNSS project and diversion of Krishna river from Srisailam.

Anantapur: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu probably touched the feet of someone in public for the first time. The incident was witnessed at the Cherlopalli public meeting in Kadiri mandal in Anan-tapur district during the water release towards Punganur ceremony, as part of the second phase of the HNSS project.

Mr Naidu touched the feet of 80-year-old Muth-yalamma of Sriharipu-ram of Kuntimaddi village in Ramagiri mandal who donated Rs 50,000 towards the construction of Amaravati state capital. Ms Muthyalamma, from the BPL category, depended on her pension along with financial ass-istance by two sons, for her livelihood

Ms Muthyalamma saved Rs 50,000 from her pension and other resources and handed over to the CM during his Cherlopalli meeting on Tuesday.

Responding to her vi-sion and the role she played in the formation of AP state capital, Mr Naidu touched her feet and said that the elderly lady with her strong feeling of social responsibility, was a role model for many.

The Chief Minister further announced Rs 10,000 monthly pension for those physically challenged after reacting to a representation from a woman in the audience.

The Chief Minister offered Jalaharathi at Cherlopalli reservoir as part of HNSS project phase-II that provides water to meet drinking and irrigation needs of Chittoor district.

While reacting to the disturbance created by both TD groups over their existence in Kadiri segment, Mr Naidu said he was firm on the selection of candidates for both Assembly and Lok Sabha in coming polls.

“I will pick only those who have the capability to win in the elections with public support. Otherwise they will be denied tickets,” he said.

Mr Naidu further reiterated that Prime Mini-ster Narendra Modi had no sympathy towards AP and the state was suffering with many problems after bifurcation. “Thou-gh we have achieved many awards, the Centre has no positive attitude towards development of AP and has not fulfilled the promises listed in the Bifurcation Act,” he stated.

The Chief Minister said the state government was also thinking of offering reduction in taxes on KIA cars that were being manufactured in AP. “I appeal to the people of the state to opt for KIA cars to encourage local production,” the CM said.
