4 Cops Including Inspector Of Police Killed In Demining Operation In Abujhmad
During the operation, an IED, believed to have been planted earlier by Maoist insurgents, accidentally detonated while being neutralised
Raipur: Four security personnel including an inspector of police were on Saturday killed while defusing the explosives recovered from a Naxal dump in Abujhmad along the interdistrict border of Kanker and Narayanpur in Bastar in Chhattisgarh, police said.
The incident occurred in the Chotte Bethia area situated on the northern fringe of Abujhmad along Kanker- Narayanpur interdistrict border.
According to Kanker district superintendent of police Nikhil Rakhecha, the incident took place when a search team of security personnel were recovering Maoist dumps in the jungles in Chotte Bethia area.
The search team first recovered a computer, printer and monitor in a Naxal dump and then started exploring another Maoist dump in the nearby area where five sacks of explosives carrying 15 kg each of gunpowder were hidden.
The explosives might have gone off due to the high temperature and chemical reaction during the defusal by the bomb disposal squad accompanying the search team, leading to the tragedy, preliminary investigation has suggested.
The four slain security personnel included inspector of police Sukhram Bhatti, and constables, - Krushna Kumar Komra, Sanjay Gadpalle, and Parmanand Korram.
While Bhatti, Komra and Gadpalle died on the spot, Korram succumbed to his injuries in the hospital in Raipur where he was shifted.
