Visakhapatnam: With the city police  forming special teams to tighten their grip on drunken driving and midnight parties on New Year’s Eve, city folks have started finding alternative venues in Vizag Agency, where the police vigil is very low.

The owners of sound and lighting systems say they have been receiving calls from youngsters to arrange sound and light show for their parties in Vizag Agency on December 31 night and January 1, 2017. The police also suspect the marked presence of expensive drugs in remote areas during the New Year celebrations.

Sources said that most of the youngsters, who wanted to celebrate the New Year in calm and cool places, have preferred to go Lammasingi, Tajangi, Ananthagiri, Araku, Katika waterfalls and few parts in Vizag Agency and Paduva and Chatuwa along the Andhra Odisha Border (AOB). Apart from the chilly weather and scenic natural beauty the low police vigil is the main reason for youth chalking plans to welcome the New Year in Vizag Agency.

City Police Chief T. Yoganand said that they have certain restrictions in Vizag city to ensure smooth flow of traffic and public safety during New Year-2017 celebrations from December 31 night to January 1. “We will not spoil the spirit of the New Year celebrations but we would not allow drunken driving and rave parties and will nab the violators,” he added.

Drink, dine and dance till the morning of New Year wills the real celebrations of New Year.  “In cities and towns, we can’t welcome the New Year as we wish as there are restrictions. Welcoming the New Year at Lammasingi, the coolest place in Andhra Pradesh will be unforgettable memory. Our team has planned to celebrate the New Year with liquor and campfire at Lammasingi,” said Suresh Kumar, software professional.

Anticipating the huge turnout of youngsters from parts of Vizag and East Godavari districts on December 31 and January 1, locals have planned to prepare country chicken curry and bamboo chicken dishes to New Year revellers in Lammasingi and Tajangi, said V. Raju, native of Lammasingi.
