Hyderabad: In a bid to make travel to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) smoother, and make it easy for techies, the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) will inaugurate services on the 1.5-km stretch between Hitec City and Raidurg on Friday.

Ministers K.T. Rama Rao and P. Ajay Kumar will flag off the inaugural run from the Hitec City station. According to officials, services for regular passengers would begin a few hours later.

The Metro Rail project in Hyderabad is the second largest in the country with 56 kilometers in operation, behind Delhi Metro.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the 30-km stretch between Miyapur and Nagole in November 2017.

In September 2018, the 16-km stretch between Ameerpet and LB Nagar went into service.

On March 20, the 10-km stretch between Ameerpet and Hitec City was inaugurated.
