Bengaluru: High drama prevailed outside Duniya Vijay's first wife Nagarathna's house in Katriguppe on Sunday morning when the police arrived there to arrest Nagarathna on charges of assault on Vijay's second wife Keerthi Pattadi.

The police waited outside the house for a long time as Nagarathna's daughter refused to open the door, saying her mother was not home. Later, the police detained Monica for questioning, while continuing their efforts trace Nagarathna, who is absconding.

The Girinagar police went to arrest Nagarathna after  a CCTV footage from the cameras installed at Vijay's house where he lives with his second wife Keerthi Pattadi was released and went viral where Nagarathna is seen hitting Keerthi with a slipper.

The footage, believed to be of September 24 when Vijay was arrested for assault on a gym trainer Maruthigowda, was released by Keerthi on Sunday to prove her innocence.

On September 24, according to Keerthi and what is seen in the footage, Nagarathna barged into her house and hit her with a slipper until she was taken away by her daughter Monica and others. Keerthi alleged that Monica

planned everything and called Nagarathna to her house.

After assaulting Keerthi, Nagarathna approached the Girinagar police and filed a complaint accusing Keerthi of assaulting her.

Vijay told the media that Nagarathna is hell-bent on tarnishing his image by repeatedly projecting him as a bad person. She was cashing in on the public sympathy she received after she played the woman victim card, he said.

"As everything is evident with the video proving Nagarathna's assault on Keerthi and filing a fake complaint to harass me, all I need from the police is justice," he said.

Meanwhile, Vijay and Keerthi have requested the police to drop charges against Monica as she is a minor and maintained that Nagarathna is misusing his daughter’s innocence and provoking her against them. The duo has requested the police to initiate action against Nagarathna.

On Saturday, following DCP (South) Annamalai's order, the Girinagar police had taken up a suo motu case against Duniya Vijay and family for allegedly assaulting Monica. The police summoned the actor and others to the police station and warned them not to create nuisance.

The police have booked them under CrPC 107 as a preventive measure to maintain peace and tranquillity in the city.
