10 sports academies to be inaugurated in AP on August 15

Vizag, Amaravati and Tirupati will be developed as Sports Cities, with quality sports facilities.

They will have 80 expert sportspersons training students, and the six academies will be maintained at a cost of Rs 20 crore per year.

Vijayawada: The total number of playfields across all 13 districts is 3,036. The fields will be customised with an outlay of Rs 151.8 crore by the end of August.

The six indoor and outdoor academies (Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Gudivada, Narasaraopeta, Nellore and Anantapur) and four water sports schools (Vijayawada, Nagavankala, Jangareddygudem and Thadipudi) would be inaugurated on August 15. 

They will have 80 expert sportspersons training students, and the six academies will be maintained at a cost of Rs 20 crore per year.

In a meeting on Friday, SAAP officials informed the Chief Minister that SAAP will continuously seeking guidance from the Centre for designing and maintenance of the above academies. Out of the Rs 29.5 crore sanctioned by the GoI for infrastructure projects for sports, the state has spent Rs 8.7 crore.

Every municipal area will also be involved in local tournaments, organised by SAAP. SAAP has identified in collaboration with the Director of municipal administration, 535 municipal schemes and various other stadiums, playfields for the advancement of sports. 

The officials proposed that intra and inter-university competitions should be held for the CM's Cup. This will encourage physical activity. Vizag, Amaravati and Tirupati will be developed as Sports Cities, with quality sports facilities.
