Hyderabad: A cloud of uncertainty looms over the MIM’s Youm-ul-Quran on Jummat-ul-Vida (last Friday of Ramzan) at Macca Masjid as the superintendent of the mosque has not received any communication in this regard so far.

The MIM has been conducting the annual Youm-ul-Quran for 60 years now. This time, however, government authorities had restrained organisations from conducting programmes at Macca Masjid on Fridays during the holy month due to the election code of conduct.

Macca Masjid superintendent Abdul Quadeer Siddiqui forwarded proposals from three organisations including the MIM to conduct the Youm-ul-Quran meetings to the minority welfare department. The department sought the consent of the model code of conduct review committee, which refused to allow political parties to conduct programmes in the mosque.

Subsequently, the department authorities assured the MIM that they would consider the petition after the model code was relaxation. Now, although the code of conduct has been ended by the Election Commission, the authorities have failed to address the applications. The MIM has started pursuing the matter and hopes that the party will be allowed to conduct the meeting.

Meanwhile, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi addressed letters to the the GHMC, electricity department, HMWS&SB, police, traffic police, TSRTC, and Doordarshan, requesting special arrangements for the last Friday of Ramzan.

He asked the departments to provide drinking water and water for ablution, uninterrupted electricity supply, and special RTC buses plying from Falaknuma and Afzalgunj for the day.
