Hyderabad: Student ends life over CBSE Class XII result
It was stated that Satvik had not called the CBSE helpline, set up to counsel students.
Hyderabad: Satvik Mishra, an 18-year-old CBSE student, died on Monday after attempting suicide on Saturday, after the results of the Class XII Board exams were declared.
Satvik was a student of St Andrews, Bowenpally, and had reportedly failed in Maths. It was stated that Satvik had not called the CBSE helpline, set up to counsel students.
Jawaharnagar inspector Sudhakar S. said the results were announced at 12.30 pm, and Satvik spoke with his friends on the phone for a while about how disappointed he was. “Then he informed his mother that he was going outside and left the house, only to go to the terrace of the fifth floor of the building from where he jumped,” the inspector said.
“We heard a noise at about 1 pm and rushed out but we never expected to see Satvik’s body. His classmates informed us that he had failed in maths but we have never seen Satvik’s parents berate him. They had offered their support. Moreover it was just the matter of one compartment exam,” said a neighbour. “After our initial inquiry, we found no other reason for Satvik to take this drastic step. His friends were shocked,” said the inspector.
Despite schools sending notices home stressing on the importance of other things beside marks and trying their level best to ensure that students do not take any drastic measures, the same continues to happen. Educational experts stated that it is the failure of schools to not have counselling mechanisms and not ensuring that children contact the official helpline number or force parents to do the same.
