Hyderabad: December deadline set for 2BHK project

According to GHMC officials, the government has asked to expedite the construction on the progress of 2BHK project.

Hyderabad: State government has set weekly targets to complete double bedroom project for the urban poor in the city within December. The government has issued circular to send weekly reports on the progress of the works and assured to sanction Rs 500 crore for every month.

According to GHMC officials, the government has asked to expedite the construction on the progress of 2BHK project. Out of one lakh 2BHK houses, construction works of 90,000 houses were already grounded and are in various stages of construction.  As many as 27 locations have been facing court cases where about 10,000 2BHK houses are still left to be constructed. 

The corporation has already changed the location of one disputed site to Falaknuma, where 800 2BHK houses will be constructed. Earlier the site location was in Mansa-npally in Maheshwaram. The corporation now has decided to chalk out alternative sites to the remaining disputed sites to speed up the 2BHK housing project. However, the corporation has given assurance of '4,500 crore. Officials claimed that even though the house will be constructed at a brisk pace the corporation could manage to complete 60 per cent houses.

Meanwhile, the corporation has identified 481 acres of land in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy districts to construct 2BHK houses at 109 locations. The corporation has grounded 89,516 2BHK works out of the total 1,00,000. The corporation would construct 81,225 2BHK houses in vacant lands (58 locations) and 8,291 houses in slums (24 locations).

In August, the GHMC finalised the tender for 59,520 units at 88 locations and started the work on 27,734 units at 40 places. The corporation has completed 176 2BHK units at Singam Cheruvu (Thanda) of Mallapur (M), Uppal.
