A Central team visits the Special Isolation Ward set up to provide treatment in case of coronavirus infection at the Fever Hospital, in Hyderabad, on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: The Central team on Tuesday visited the state-run Fever Hospital and suggested measures to be carried out at the isolation ward and sought a total closure. There are three microbiologists in the team, who are assessing the preparedness and conditions of the hospital. With the coronavirus spreading through droplets, the present set-up in wards is not found to be adequate to contain the spread.

The facilities at the hospital require an urgent upgrade so that there are full-protection uniforms for staff and a total closure in terms of plastic sheets for every bed, whereby the infection cannot spread further, the assessment from the team said.

A senior doctor, on condition of anonymity, said, “The Central team has taken stock of the situation and suggested some changes, based on inputs being noted in treating cases in China. There is not a single positive case till date in Telangana. But the team wants preparedness to be robust and complete. At the same time, there is a need for prevention, which applies to common people, doctors and paramedical staff. ”

Virus spreads rapidly via droplets
The biggest concern is the rapid spread of the virus through droplets, which makes it a big cause of worry. Medical reports from China, which are being studied here, have shown that the infection spreads faster in cases which are severe in nature. This means that there are more viruses shed in severe conditions.

Patients with milder cases are found to recover and the virus load in them is not so high, according to initial reports that have been evaluated.
