Chennai: Missing boy found dead in stone quarry

Chennai: A 21-year-old engineering student, who was reported missing from his house on Tuesday, was found dead in a pond in a stone quarry at Keerapakkam in Guduvanchery, on Monday morning. The deceased, identified as Saravanan (21) son of Karthikeyan (45) of Adambakkam, was a second-year mechanical engineering student in a private college in West Tambaram.
Police said that quarry workers spotted the floating body and alerted the police. The body was then retrieved with the help of fire and rescue services personnel and a local police team.
Sources said Saravanan came home after college on the evening of January 22, and reportedly had left to meet his friends that night. Since he did not return, family members searched for him and lodged a man-missing complaint with the Adambakkam police. They also launched a search operation to trace Saravanan.

Kayar police came to the spot and tried to fish out the body, but it was found that the body was tied to a large stone under water. The help of fire and rescue services personnel was sought, and they retrieved the body.
Other police stations were alerted about the body, and on Monday evening, Adambakkam police informed Saravanan's father Karthikeyan about the body. He later identified the body to be that of his son.
The body was sent to the Chengalpattu government hospital, and will be handed over to his parents after an autopsy. The case has been altered to a murder case and police have started making enquiries. They are now looking for his two-wheeler and mobile phone. Investigations are on.
