Vijayawada: Minister for cinematography Perni Venkataramaiah has assured that the newly-appointed committee will fix rates of admission in cinema theatres which will be affordable to commoners in the state.

The minister held a meeting with representatives from unions of film distributors here on Tuesday. Later, he told media persons that the representatives had asked for increasing rates of admission into film theatres, allow benefit shows and to give some time to renew licences of film theatres and get fire NOCs.

The minister said that the state government, based on a suggestion by the Andhra Pradesh High Court, appointed a committee headed by principal secretary, home, to fix rates of admission into film theaters after taking feedback from all the stakeholders.

He said that during the earlier meet with the prominent film personalities and other stakeholders on September 20, he had appealed to them to renew the licence of film theaters, obtain fire NOCs and also other requisites and added that even after three months, only a few of them complied with such norms.

He said that this resulted in law enforcing authorities carrying out inspection of film theatres all over the state and found 130 theatres were being run against norms in nine districts and added that of them, 83 theatres were seized, fine imposed on 25 theatres while managements of 22 theatres closed as they were having no valid licences.
