Puducherry govt ensured no loss of life in Karaikal: Delegation

The team members met the Chief Minister at the secretariat and held discussions with him.

Puducherry: The Central team deputed to assess the damages caused by ‘Gaja’ in Karaikal region of Puducherry, held talks with Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy here, on Tuesday.

The team led by Daniel E. Richard, joint secretary, ministry of home affairs, appreciated the territorial administration for taking precautionary measures in the wake of the cyclone alert.

The team members met the Chief Minister at the secretariat and held discussions with him. Ministers and senior officials of the administration were also present.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Richard said, “The government needs to be congratulated for taking proper measures so that there was no loss of life in Karaikal. He also said that the team had a detailed assessment of the damages caused in the area.”

“Besides visiting places affected by the cyclone, the team also held a review meeting with the Karaikal Collector. A detailed discussion was held with the Chief Minister later, after which a memorandum was submitted to the team,” added Richard.

Responding to a question, Richard said that the team would probably submit their report within a week. The Puducherry Government has sought an assistance of '187 crore from the Centre for Gaja relief in Karaikal region.
